Laylo Maxamed Warsame lives in Waberi Village under Garowe District, where she has faced significant challenges as a widow and mother of several children. To support her family, she initially sold camel milk but struggled with unstable sales. She also ventured into selling kimis (Sabaayad), a traditional Somali flatbread, but faced similar inconsistencies.

Through the SEIPP program, Laylo underwent four months of comprehensive training in entrepreneurship, VSLA, financial management, and microfinance linkage. This training equipped her with essential skills to manage her business effectively and make informed financial decisions. With monthly cash support, along with her savings and contribution from SEIPP, she was able to invest in a Tuk-Tuk (Bajaj). This small vehicle has become a crucial source of income, transformed her financial situation, and provided her family with greater stability and hope for the future.

The acquisition of the Tuk-Tuk marked a pivotal shift in Laylo’s life, enabling her to earn a steady income of around USD 15 every two nights. This transformation provided the financial stability she desperately needed, allowing her to pay off debts that had burdened her for years and alleviating the constant worry about her family’s daily needs. With the saving culture she learned from the SEIPP program, Laylo now diligently saves USD 5 each night, building a safety net for unexpected expenses.

“I aspire to improve my life, achieve my goals, and attain financial freedom. SEIPP program, helped me learn basic skills that transformed my circumstances and allowed me to build a better future for my family.” – Laylo Said.

Thanks to her improved financial situation, Laylo has successfully sent eight of her children to school, with four now attending high school—a significant increase from just three children in school before. Ensuring her children receive an education has always been her top priority, and this achievement represents a major milestone for her family. Additionally, Laylo has extended her support to her late brother’s children by covering their school fees, showcasing her commitment to family and community welfare.

With a reliable income from her Tuk-Tuk, she can now stay home to care for her children, providing them with the attention they deserve. Previously, when she sold small items at the market, her children were often neglected due to her long hours and lack of resources for childcare.

Now, she can actively participate in their lives, helping with homework and nurturing their dreams.
