KAALO is pleased to announce the launch of the AARAN (Advancing Adaptation through Resilient Mobility and Natural Capital) project in Puntland, bringing together government ministries, agencies, and district authorities to strengthen locally led climate adaptation and community resilience.
The project launch brought together senior representatives from key Puntland government institutions, including the Ministries of Planning, Interior, Agriculture, Environment, Livestock, and Commerce. Representatives from the Puntland Water Development Agency, the Information Management Centre (IMC), and the district authorities of Garowe and Galkacyo also participated in the event.
The participation of these institutions demonstrates a shared commitment to strengthening coordination and collaboration around climate adaptation, resilience-building, and sustainable development. Bringing together government stakeholders at both national and district levels is an important step towards ensuring that climate resilience efforts are locally led, coordinated, and responsive to the needs of communities.
The AARAN project will be implemented from 2026 to 2029 in Garowe, Nugaal Region, and Galkacyo, Mudug Region. The project will focus on supporting communities to better adapt to the impacts of climate change while strengthening their ability to cope with environmental, economic, and social pressures.
Through its interventions, AARAN will support climate-adaptive livelihoods, sustainable natural resource management, durable solutions, and inclusive resilience. These efforts aim to reduce humanitarian needs and address factors contributing to forced displacement by creating more sustainable opportunities and strengthening the resilience of vulnerable communities.
The project recognizes the importance of working closely with government institutions, local authorities, communities, and development and humanitarian partners. By strengthening local systems and promoting coordinated approaches, AARAN seeks to contribute to longer-term solutions that enable communities to withstand climate-related shocks and build more sustainable futures.
KAALO looks forward to working closely with government, communities, and partners throughout the implementation of the project to create lasting and climate-resilient impact across Puntland.
The project is funded by FCDO through the BRCiS consortium and implemented by KAALO and IOM.
