KAALO, through the Joint NCA/SC FGM-CEFM Programme, successfully conducted entrepreneurship, business skills, and business management training for three women VSLA groups in Dhiganle, Eyl, and Dangorayo.

The training was designed to strengthen the knowledge and practical skills of women participating in the VSLA groups, enabling them to better understand entrepreneurship, business management, and financial management. Through the training, participants gained practical knowledge that can support them in starting, managing, and developing sustainable businesses within their communities.

A total of 45 women participated in the training. The sessions focused on strengthening their capacity to identify business opportunities, develop and manage businesses, make informed financial decisions, and use available resources effectively. The training also aimed to contribute to the economic empowerment of women by supporting their ability to engage in income-generating activities and build more sustainable livelihoods.

As part of the engagement, KAALO requested the participating VSLA groups to develop and share their business plans. The submitted plans will be reviewed to assess the proposed business activities and their feasibility. Following the review, grant support will be provided to the selected groups. The support will include a contribution from the project, while the VSLA groups will also contribute from their own savings, encouraging ownership and shared responsibility for the proposed businesses.

In addition to the financial support, the participating groups will receive continuous guidance and follow-up from KAALO. This ongoing support will help the women apply the knowledge gained during the training, address challenges that may arise during business implementation, and strengthen the sustainability of their businesses over time.

This intervention represents an important step towards strengthening women’s economic empowerment and supporting women-led businesses at the community level. By combining entrepreneurship training, business planning, grant support, and continuous follow-up, the programme seeks to create opportunities for women to strengthen their livelihoods and contribute to the economic well-being of their families and communities.

The intervention was supported by the Government of Norway through NCA and implemented by Kaalo Aid and Development.
