On 5 July, KAALO Aid and Development Organization successfully held a graduation ceremony in Baydhabo for 30 inmates who completed a three-month Electrical Installation Vocational Skills Training Programme. The initiative forms part of ongoing efforts to support rehabilitation, reintegration, and sustainable livelihood opportunities for inmates within Somalia’s correctional system.

The training programme was implemented by KAALO in partnership with the Ministry of Justice of Southwest State. Through practical and hands-on learning, participants acquired essential electrical installation skills designed to enhance their employability and prepare them for productive lives after release.

The graduation ceremony brought together senior government officials, representatives from the justice sector, civil society organizations, and correctional institutions. Among the distinguished guests were Major General Mohamed Sheikh Hassan Xaamud, Commander of the Somali Custodial Corps, and Hon. Abdulkadir Yusuf Abdinur, Minister of Justice of Southwest State.

Speaking during the event, officials highlighted the importance of vocational education in supporting the rehabilitation process and reducing barriers to successful reintegration into society. They emphasized that providing inmates with practical skills contributes to self-reliance, economic empowerment, and social inclusion.

Major General Mohamed Sheikh Hassan Xaamud commended KAALO Aid and Development Organization for its leadership in coordinating and implementing the programme. He encouraged the organization to continue expanding similar initiatives that create opportunities for inmates to rebuild their lives and contribute positively to their communities.

Hon. Abdulkadir Yusuf Abdinur praised the Somali Custodial Corps for its commitment to inmate welfare and its efforts to advance rehabilitation and correctional reforms. He noted that partnerships between government institutions and development organizations play a critical role in strengthening the correctional system and supporting positive outcomes for inmates.

As part of the ceremony, graduates received certificates recognizing their successful completion of the training programme. Outstanding trainees were also awarded special recognition, while all graduates received electrical toolkits to help them apply their newly acquired skills and pursue future employment opportunities.

The event concluded with appreciation for all stakeholders who contributed to the programme’s success. Officials reaffirmed the importance of investing in rehabilitation initiatives that provide inmates with practical skills, restore hope, and support their successful reintegration into society.

This initiative was implemented by KAALO Aid and Development Organization under the European Union-funded justice programme in Somalia, reflecting a shared commitment to promoting rehabilitation, skills development, and inclusive opportunities for vulnerable groups.
