Gender Equality, Human Rights and Protection
KAALO promotes gender equality and prevents/responds to gender-based violence and harmful traditional practices against women and other marginalized groups. At the same time, KAALO further protects the human rights and wellbeing of vulnerable marginalized community groups such as IDPs, youth, refugees, asylum seekers, women and girls as well as minority clans.
KAALO’s Gender Equality, Protection and Human Rights Sector is dedicated to promoting gender equality, protecting vulnerable populations, and advancing the rights and wellbeing of marginalized communities. The organization works to address the root causes of discrimination, inequality, and exclusion while fostering an environment where women, girls, youth, displaced populations, and minority groups can live with dignity, safety, and equal opportunities. Through community-centered approaches, KAALO supports inclusive development and social justice for all.
A key focus of the sector is promoting positive social norms and empowering women and girls. KAALO implements initiatives that challenge harmful gender stereotypes, encourage gender equality, and strengthen the role of women in decision-making processes. The organization supports women’s leadership, civic engagement, and political participation, enabling them to contribute meaningfully to community development, governance, and peacebuilding processes.
KAALO also works to protect and promote universal human rights for vulnerable and marginalized groups, including internally displaced persons (IDPs), refugees, asylum seekers, returnees, minority clans, children, and persons with disabilities. Through community-based protection approaches, the organization raises awareness of fundamental rights, strengthens local protection mechanisms, and supports communities in creating safer and more inclusive environments for all members.
The prevention and response to gender-based violence (GBV) and harmful traditional practices are central components of KAALO’s programming. The organization engages communities in efforts to prevent female genital mutilation/cutting (FGM/C), child marriage, and forced marriage while promoting positive behavioral change and social transformation. KAALO also provides support for survivors of sexual and gender-based violence through protection services, referrals, psychosocial support, and community awareness initiatives aimed at reducing risks and strengthening protection systems.
To ensure access to justice and comprehensive protection, KAALO collaborates with communities, institutions, and service providers to improve legal awareness and strengthen support services for vulnerable populations. Through advocacy, capacity building, and rights-based programming, the organization promotes equality, inclusion, and protection while helping communities build resilience against violence, discrimination, and social exclusion. Target groups include women, children, host communities, IDPs, refugees and asylum seekers, returnees, minority clans, youth, and persons with disabilities (PWDs).
